Yup, had to use the pens as a rigid shim. Without it, the converter would fall right through the first wall and annoyingly between it and the second.
I ended up using a set of wheels mfg presta valve savers and the upper polycarbonate bodys of 2 uni-ball signo 207 pens.
Surprisingly, the portion of the pen body I took, the part right beneath the clicker press part, conformed to the aero section perfectly. And the converter fit the inside diameter of the pen snugly.
