Let me rephrase that in a way that doesn't sound so challenging. The Tour Divide and TransAm bikes are loaded, though ultralight no doubt. The main reason these riders travel so lightly loaded is their desire to go fast, not the capacity of the bike. Like I said, if one has a personal preference for racks and panniers steel is a good choice, and that's perfectly fine, but there are other ways to carry stuff which are perfectly suitable for carbon bikes. This is a well loaded Cutthroat and is full carbon. Needless to say, these people ride and stress their bikes harder than I ever will so a few more pounds of gear wouldn't scare me a bit.
