Thank you haha the plastic slid right off (I thought it was part of the stem). I spent literally 35 minutes and some very achy fingers trying to loosen that stupid bolt.
Make sure when you place the stem in the head tube to not bottom it out. If you do then the stem might wedge into a tiny amount of metal at the bottom where the head tube joins to the crown of the fork and it is likely to come loose.
