Thanks for the help guys...The axle I had was pitted so badly and i couldn't tighten the cones without having considerable play and friction. I was able to salvage an axle from an old bike...it's better than the old one but not amazing...must be something wrong with the races. But I'm not gonna try anything more...It should work fine for how long i think I'll be having my bike.
