I rode my cruiser around a lot in avondale. Honestly, I ran around with about 8oz of slime in each tube and didn't think much about it, I never thought cruisers were supposed to be light. (Mine weighed in at 58lbs)

You won't avoid any more thorns going tubeless, and the flat protection might be marginally better, but I run a sealant even on my tubeless bikes. Go to walmart (gasp,not a big box store) and pick up a few Hutchinson tubes for the bike, a 16oz bottle of slime, throw half in each tube and forget about it for a while. Just enjoy riding. You'll find no real gains by shedding a pound or two on a cruiser
