They paved the shoulder on Rt 299 and I hope that it makes riding on the road safer for both cyclist and motorist.
This is why I Mtb, no cars! Even as an enthusiast, I get a little impatient driving behind a group of cyclist going 3 wide and refusing to move over. I would never pass them in an unsafe manner, but the temptation is there and some will act on it.
Of course, if the sun is in your eyes.... be careful out there!
