I was in Seattle a few weeks ago and there are homeless camps everywhere. I couldn't believe it. Literally hundreds of tents set up in underpasses along the freeway. My driver told me it's because rent in the city has gotten too high for anyone to afford.
It has nothing to do with rents... it's because Seattle allows people to camp anywhere they wish, decent weather, lousy mental health care system, etc. Seattle continually increases its spending on homeless services and continues to get more and more homeless; anytime you subsidize behavior you can count on getting more of it. They are now talking about "safe houses" for junkies to shoot up in.
