The hanger is bolted to the fork, I have a fork-mounted hanger as well, all that does is hold the end of the brake cable housing. If the pull cable breaks, I'm pretty sure there's nothing to prevent the straddle cable from falling onto the tire. That's why Shimano invented the "link-wire"
