I prefer stouts, porters and wee heavy ales. Alas, the shops were out of Big Bad Baptist Imperial Stout with coffee, and The Temptress milk stout. So I tried Samuel Adams Nitro Coffee Stout, purchased only after realizing some schmuck had replaced two of the four bottles of Kroger's last carton of Lakewood's "The Temptress" milk stout with diet ginger beer.
Quick impressions.
- Aroma: Last week's coffee grounds and caramelized burnt yellow pine, with the vaguest hint of Russian Blue cat fart.
- Mouthfeel: Slimy, with hints of nitrogen widget.
- Flavor: Astringent mid-tongue hit of Witch Hazel, lingering complex aftertastes of cigarette butts, marshmallow ashes from hastily retrieving s'mores from campfire, and hints of final day at age 29 regrets.
- Overall impressions: Sam, you're no Big Bad Baptist Imperial Stout.
- Recommendation/rating: This is why we can't have nice things.
