I say just wear what you like. I like kits on the road bike or anytime I'm putting in longer miles. I feel more comfortable and enjoy wearing them. I look sexy in spandex! On big mtb rides, I usually wear baggies with chamois shorts. If I'm bumming around, I usually wear whatever I'm already wearing.
Yep, cruising to the shops to grab a 6 pack or post a letter, whatever I am in at the time on whatever bike is closest to the door.
Short MTB ride on my dually, maybe a pair of baggies and tech jersey.
XC MTB or long road ride, I will rock the lycra.
