Question without notice for Ed or any other expert in things that hurt. Had a hell day yesterdee, 130km of base over hilly terrain. Today, tired legs over the hills (first 60km) then its into gentle motorpace down the highway with the cagers. As I understand it (with my mega history of cycle racing stuff), lactic acid is a wonderful source of energy but not easily accessable. Seems like I read somewhere you gotta be in dire straights before the body starts to convert it........ or something like that.
