Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

that's pretty sad news. Pedestrians are even wilder than the cyclists here in Sydney, and far too many of them use their ears instead of their eyes. I've nearly creamed plenty. Fingers crossed the cyclist wasn't running a red light. I bet they still come down harder on him than they do on drivers who kill cyclists

ive gone to the point of tracking what i eat through www.fitday.com and using Chris Carmichaels guidlines in his food for fitness book and so far ( as in the last week) it seems to be working, as ive identified some big issues with my diet and corrected them. what i cant beleive is how much i eat - like i never stop. lack of carbs seems to be the main thing, witnessed by me blowing up spectaculy half way through my interval sessions last night oh well, BF scales told me 18 % and 78.3 kilos this morning, so hopefully thats real progress not pureley water \ glyocgen loss
I used a program called Fitsmart to drop weight after giving up the smokes.
I went from 65kg when racing m/cycles (and smoking) to 95kg (non smoking, sedentary) to 80kg (current)
The weight was coming orf at about ½ - 1 kg a week.
They have a website https://www.fitsmart.com/ but I found their book more helpful.

HDT, shifting the last 10kg seems to be the hardest thing.

Miles, patience, maybe some cross-training so the body has to consume energy differently. Dunno wot the answer is. Maybe ed might be able to provide some clues.

Last year after doing 100kays of base combined with 50km of paceline or sprintwork twice a week, plus racing, plus other training I still only lost very little bits of weight at a time. Took 4months to lose 4kg. Admittedly weight loss wasn't high on the agenda: from memory I think all I did was cut out the afternoon muffin.

A couple of hints about Fitday - don't rely on the seppo equivalents of food, use the custom option and enter the nutritional info for anything you eat on a regular basis. It overestimates on salt intake and you have to watch out for some of the processed stuff that sounds the same as the stuff we have here but is usually overloaded with sugars (compared to the Aussie equivalent)

Also, to get an accurate count of calories burned vs calories consumed, you need to enter sleep in the daily activities or it wildly overestimates your basal metabolic rate.

Other than that, it's not bad.

Bikes: Trek 5200 and 8000

What annoys me about weight loss is when I do a BMI check. Based on my current weight of 90kg's I'm still consider overweight and verging on obese. WTF, forget about the fact that my resting HR is 60 BPM, I can ride 100+ k's, swim 3+ k's and run 20+ k's. I wonder what egg head made this up?

Bikes: 8 bikes - one for each day of the week!

The TDF thread was amusing. Thanks to you guys for taking it down a few notches.
