Thanks RG. My goal was to get it fixed with the least amount of hassle- a new complete headset is only 30.00. Think I'll order one and see , pop the stem cap, see what's what, and if the races are part of the "cartridge,", I'll drop the new one in. If I have to replace (pull and press) the races, it will likely be easier to drop it at the shop.
And, if you know the man with the plan, ask for the man...
