You can joke, but it is all too serious. I got yelled at this afternoon. Bike trail crossed a five lane road with an island in the median. Didn't stop for the first two lanes because there was no traffic, just slowly coasted with fingers on brakes and not pedaling to the island, where there were two cars coming. First came to a polite stop to let me and the other guy next to me go, the guy in the far lane slammed on his brakes while showing us the bird and mentioning something about not stopping at our stop sign four lanes away, when we were already stopped on the island.

Didn't really want to cross in front of him, but figured if he tried similar he had no speed and my foot could do more damage to his windshield than he could probably afford, so I just smiled and waved and went about my way. Even on a trail, you can't please motorists
