Froome purposefully ran over by car

He's OK, but the bike isn't.

Oh sure! Blame the car and not the driver!

BTW...This would have been much more fun in A&S. Will check for a parallel thread there.

Headline is a bit off.

He wasn't run over, he was chased down and hit from the rear (while on the sidewalk (pavement to Brits).

BTW there is one in A&S, however the headline, or post itself isn't catchy enough to get any action.

See "no one is safe".

Ah, sorry, I quickly looked at A&S, didn't see it. Did notice one in Pro Racing, after I posted this and thought to look, but not a lot of attention there til TdF time.

Bikes: (2) ti TiCycles, 2007 w/ triple and 2011 fixed, 1979 Peter Mooney, ~1983 Trek 420 now fixed and ~1973 Raleigh Carlton Competition gravel grinder

So Froome didn't honor the word I have heard since my teen days. "If you don't like my driving, stay off the sidewalk."

More seriously, I have wondered for years if I am ever going to see that. I have thought about trying to lure the driver into a telephone pole or tree. If this were to happen, I'd make the 911 cal from a block away, assuming that any drive with homicidal intent might have a firearm.

I have already done this to a dog. (Ran him into a telephone pole. It survived but never chased a bike again.)

Isn't there some sort of rule here that if you're going to take a picture of your bike, the valve stems should be at 6:00?

Eons ago I was leading a trip, and one of the people was a teenage girl. Someone drove up alongside her and started hassling her, and it built up to where they tried to run her off the road. She rode onto the grass verge, and finally escaped, but only after he drove up after her.

As luck would have it, a police car came by while we were still talking about it. Though the car was gone, I had the plate number, and relayed the info to the officer. He said that he probably couldn't do anything, EXCEPT that the car tracks in the mud made a case for intent. After a few minutes of radio back and forth, they jumped into action, and sent a car to beat the driver home, and arrest him for assault.

The story ended well, with the DA saying it would be difficult to prosecute, and he'd have to plea bargain it, but would make sure the guy had big time legal fees for the process, so even with a fine and suspended sentence, he's still pay for his actions.

You can joke, but it is all too serious. I got yelled at this afternoon. Bike trail crossed a five lane road with an island in the median. Didn't stop for the first two lanes because there was no traffic, just slowly coasted with fingers on brakes and not pedaling to the island, where there were two cars coming. First came to a polite stop to let me and the other guy next to me go, the guy in the far lane slammed on his brakes while showing us the bird and mentioning something about not stopping at our stop sign four lanes away, when we were already stopped on the island.

Didn't really want to cross in front of him, but figured if he tried similar he had no speed and my foot could do more damage to his windshield than he could probably afford, so I just smiled and waved and went about my way. Even on a trail, you can't please motorists

I'd imagine the cost of the bike to exceed that of the offending driver. for them to drive onto the MUP is outrageous. I really hope they are caught.

The impatience of drivers is astounding far too often I've crossed a road in the right of way. Only to have the driver stop on the crosswalk. They have the stop sign so must stop before it.

Quintana has an alibi (Giro), so we know it wasn't him.

Seriously though, it has been a bad couple of years for the pro's on training rides.

I almost ran a dawg into an oncoming car once. He must've seen his life flash before him, because he never came out after us again.

I've posted before about sociopaths which I've learned is a condition effecting about 5% of the population so it is fairly common. Recognizing this condition is common and that these people would get a kick out of harrasing cyclists, it is worth while being on the lookout for that sort of behavior.

$13,000 according to one source. In TX, that's more than 8 times what it takes to make the property damage alone a felony.

Back when I drove a station wagon, I used to have a lot of fun baiting the people that just had to pass the ungainly car. Lured them into tight curves, rough roads, and occasionally well-patrolled school zones. Nothing says "you're an idiot" like racing a station wagon at 60+ in a 40 zone then watching it drop anchor as you fly into a 20 school zone in front of a cop.
