He's OK, but the bike isn't.

Headline is a bit off.
He wasn't run over, he was chased down and hit from the rear (while on the sidewalk (pavement to Brits).
BTW there is one in A&S, however the headline, or post itself isn't catchy enough to get any action.
See "no one is safe".

So Froome didn't honor the word I have heard since my teen days. "If you don't like my driving, stay off the sidewalk."
More seriously, I have wondered for years if I am ever going to see that. I have thought about trying to lure the driver into a telephone pole or tree. If this were to happen, I'd make the 911 cal from a block away, assuming that any drive with homicidal intent might have a firearm.
I have already done this to a dog. (Ran him into a telephone pole. It survived but never chased a bike again.)

As luck would have it, a police car came by while we were still talking about it. Though the car was gone, I had the plate number, and relayed the info to the officer. He said that he probably couldn't do anything, EXCEPT that the car tracks in the mud made a case for intent. After a few minutes of radio back and forth, they jumped into action, and sent a car to beat the driver home, and arrest him for assault.
The story ended well, with the DA saying it would be difficult to prosecute, and he'd have to plea bargain it, but would make sure the guy had big time legal fees for the process, so even with a fine and suspended sentence, he's still pay for his actions.

You can joke, but it is all too serious. I got yelled at this afternoon. Bike trail crossed a five lane road with an island in the median. Didn't stop for the first two lanes because there was no traffic, just slowly coasted with fingers on brakes and not pedaling to the island, where there were two cars coming. First came to a polite stop to let me and the other guy next to me go, the guy in the far lane slammed on his brakes while showing us the bird and mentioning something about not stopping at our stop sign four lanes away, when we were already stopped on the island.
Didn't really want to cross in front of him, but figured if he tried similar he had no speed and my foot could do more damage to his windshield than he could probably afford, so I just smiled and waved and went about my way. Even on a trail, you can't please motorists

I'd imagine the cost of the bike to exceed that of the offending driver. for them to drive onto the MUP is outrageous. I really hope they are caught.
The impatience of drivers is astounding far too often I've crossed a road in the right of way. Only to have the driver stop on the crosswalk. They have the stop sign so must stop before it.

I almost ran a dawg into an oncoming car once. He must've seen his life flash before him, because he never came out after us again.

I've posted before about sociopaths which I've learned is a condition effecting about 5% of the population so it is fairly common. Recognizing this condition is common and that these people would get a kick out of harrasing cyclists, it is worth while being on the lookout for that sort of behavior.
