Not really IT band pain, rather pes anserine bursitis. Yes, hurts like the very devil. Cure is to do hamstring and figure 4 stretches every day, or even 3X day, for a couple weeks. Fix you right up. I do these stretches every day:

Narrow stance is better than wider. Don't mess with it. Fix yourself instead of altering your bike.
