Pedal (width) extenders for IT band pain?
Howdy folks! Been a while. Hope all is well in your respective camps.
I've run into a problem at about year 4 of road cycling-for-exercise regime. My rides are generally 30- 35 miles with lots of climbing. Generally, that been ok. But when I exceed those distances I have been reliably getting IT band pain in one or even both knees (THAT will make you contemplate the Call of Shame right there!), and once it kicks in, that's it, I haven't found a way to stop it from progressing to sheer misery. Can't walk it off, or stretch, or anything.
I'm riding a Spec Roubaix from a few years back, SL4 frame. Love it. Have worn out several sets of tires on it.
I have been rolling the IT's on a foam roller.
To my question, it was suggested to me that since I'm a large-framed person at 6'-4", I might try pedal extenders to widen my stance on the bike. And in fact I have thought before that it felt like my stance on the pedals was a little "narrow".
Anybody here try this for IT pain? Please tell me something good!
Thanks!!!

Not really IT band pain, rather pes anserine bursitis. Yes, hurts like the very devil. Cure is to do hamstring and figure 4 stretches every day, or even 3X day, for a couple weeks. Fix you right up. I do these stretches every day: https://www.bikeforums.net/road-cycli...l#post15372967
Narrow stance is better than wider. Don't mess with it. Fix yourself instead of altering your bike.

An update... did not buy the extenders. Instead I tried lowering the seat about 1/4". Buddy and I did a 40 miler a couple days ago and I had no pain whatsoever in my IT band areas. With the seat a bit lower like that I did feel more pressure under the kneecaps (we did a LOT of climbing) but it was never pain per se, and there weren't any issues in that part of my knees afterwards, so, fingers crossed that this will at least help.
