The front brake is more than enough for now; I'd take the rear brake off but it holds the fender in place.

The wheels on my own fixed gear BSO commuter (inspired by your example) weigh over 8 pounds which I'm pretty sure I could improve considerably. But no rust or other problems, gives me no excuse to upgrade
