Weinmann brake levers: broken axles
Both black lever axles are broken. Is this a common defect, or evidence of some terribly excessive force in tightening the levers onto the handlebar?
Background: it's an early 1980s Motobecane with the faux stitched-on handlebar covering that incorporates the brake lever hoods.
Most of these Weinmann lever axles I've seen over the decades are red. IIRC it's Weinmann part 7-W. These broken ones are black. I replaced them with some gold ones -maybe DiaCompe? - I had on hand.
