Weinmann brake levers: broken axles
Both black lever axles are broken. Is this a common defect, or evidence of some terribly excessive force in tightening the levers onto the handlebar?
Background: it's an early 1980s Motobecane with the faux stitched-on handlebar covering that incorporates the brake lever hoods.
Most of these Weinmann lever axles I've seen over the decades are red. IIRC it's Weinmann part 7-W. These broken ones are black. I replaced them with some gold ones -maybe DiaCompe? - I had on hand.

There was a thread on this a little while ago. Seems each company used a certain colour to denote its brand. Black would have been Raleigh or Motobecane?
Overtightening would be the cause of this failure.

Pivot pins. Unusual to find two broken on the same bike but it could happen. I only saw a few broken ones during several years of wrenching and broke one myself during the tightening process.
