Sometimes...

Beware after effects of using protect tape. I put some on a Bianchi with pearl celeste. It was on there for 6 years. I peeled it off for a full frame cleaning. Despite clear coat over paint, the paint faded. The protect tape did a great job of blocking UV rays! So there are some spots with brighter celestial compared to most of the frame. Most people would never notice unless the light was just right.

I've used this for several years - great stuff, IMO. Clear, nearly invisible, stays put, doesn't yellow, and tough. I wrap it around frame tubes under bottle cage clamps, top tube brake cable clamps, etc. A layer goes on the chainstay to avoid further paint dings.

Here's a wrap around the downtube to prevent the brake arm from making further damage.

Even used it on my bars and stem so my front-mount bottle cage won't mar the anodized aluminum. Hasn't worn through in 3+ years.

It's not cheap, but worth it, IMO.
