That should be adequate however if you have aluminum rims you'd be better off with good brake shoes. Those old style hard rubber blocks work better on steel rims.
Thanks for the information, the rims are most likely aluminum. I'll get better brake pads if they feel weak. I just want an emergency brake if or when my chain falls off. Having a chain fall off and no brakes @8mph is funny, anything above 12mph and it can be pretty dicey.
