A hand brake for the front wheel adds a lot of stopping power and decreases stopping distance in emergency situations. It's great plan. If you have big tires you will need a long reach caliper and a properly matched lever.

Do you have any ideas of anyone who might have a set to trade I'm on a fixed income and don't have much money. But I do have a nice set of crusier bars to trade

What kind of forks are on your cruiser? That would dictate your options for a front brake and yeah, it's definitely a good idea to put one on.

I'm thinking of picking this set up if my local hardware/bicycle store doesn't already have them in stock today.

I'm a broken record on it, but see if you have a bike co-op local to you. if you do, they're liable to have the parts cheap and help with the mod for little or nothing more.

That should be adequate however if you have aluminum rims you'd be better off with good brake shoes. Those old style hard rubber blocks work better on steel rims.

Thanks for the information, the rims are most likely aluminum. I'll get better brake pads if they feel weak. I just want an emergency brake if or when my chain falls off. Having a chain fall off and no brakes @8mph is funny, anything above 12mph and it can be pretty dicey.

Just standard forks on a Walmart crusier

OK so then it should be drilled for a caliper brake.

Here is the only single speed with coaster rear brake, and front hand brake that I know of:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

It comes in silver also. Seems like a good idea. I have read that the latest coaster brakes can be a might weak compared to the old ones I rode as a kid (I turned 64 today).
