Mango Cruiser
My last attempt at a cruiser didn't go so well (I picked up a Worksman cruiser, but it was so dang heavy I just cleaned it up and resold it).
Now someone in my neighborhood is selling this for $10. Curved tubes, Mango logo, either 7 or 8 speed.
Anyone know anything about it? I was thinking it must be a Mango Longboard, but those are either single speed or internal hub.
As long as the frame isn't overly rusted or tiny (I'm 6' so need something larger), I'll pick it up.

Talk about a score. It's a Mango Key Largo cruiser.
Lady was selling it cheap because it needed a "lot of work". A "lot of work" in this case meant re-attaching the front wheel and brake, airing up the tires, and a quick sponge bath.
I almost feel guilty. Except she was also trying to sell Roadmasters and Next bikes for $50 or more.
I still need to give it a better bath, then lube it. There are some scratches that need to be touched up and front tube either needs some sealant or to be replaced. And the front brake needs adjusting.

I've found some good deals but this is definitely the best so far.
I don't think they ever rode it; it rides like a dream. There are a lot of nicks from storage and banging around, so I am looking for some matching nail polish or touch up paint right now. But it doesn't need anything else done to it.
I've got a rear double basket I am considering putting on it, but I hate to mess up the lines of the bike. Ditto with fenders - they might take away from the look.

Well, if you really feel that way, you have no choice but to STRIP IT and convert it to a single speed. Dump those gears, hand brakes, and all those reflectors. The bike is screaming to be stripped down. It's saying, "I don't need all that complicated adult crap. Take it off of me and set me free!!!!!" All those cables and leashes and collars are like animal cruelty to a beach cruiser. Be kind to your bike.

If I was going to ride the bike strictly at the beach, I might strip all that off. But I plan to use it in downtown San Antonio as well and there are too many hills for this old guy without some gears.
And, of course, now there's no beach left in Texas to ride my new cruiser.

Is Harvey abusing your area as well? If so, sorry to hear that. It's really bad seeing how so many folks are having to deal with such a catastrophic storm. And so far from the coast, it's crazy.

We got the outer bands of it in San Antonio and Schertz. People just 10 miles east got slammed pretty hard.
But my son had to evacuate (Portland, just north of Corpus). Everything in Port Aransas and Rockport (kind of our 2nd home) is pretty much gone. And then of course, I've got friends and family trapped in Houston right now. All very sobering.

Wow, that cruiser cleaned up well! I agree with the stripped down look. After Squid posted pics of his bikes I did the same with my Bildabike. Love the look. I do want to find a way to keep crud and salt from spinning off the front tire and into the steerer tube now the fender is removed. I'm freakish about squeaks, pings, or other errant noises on any bike I ride. Removing fenders and chainguard instantly helped with that oddball obsession, lol.
Hope your friends and family are safe in Houston.

We were forecast to have rain all last night yet this morning looking out of my window my street was bone dry so I took my naked cruiser into work. After just a few blocks and all the way to the office it was apparent that the whole city except for my immediate neighborhood got heavy rains. I arrived at work with a wide wet skunk stripe up and down my back so there's something to be said for fenders.

Well, my excuse for getting this bike was that I had my mountain bike equipped with fenders, etc. because I've been using it as a cruiser/utility bike, and I really want to pull everything off of it so it's just a mountain bike again. If I strip the Mango as well and keep it a simple cruiser, then I still need something that is more of a utility bike with a basket, etc. The Mango puts me at 4 bikes; have to see how long the wife puts up with me having 5 bikes...

I can't help with spousal negotiations but get what you're saying about purpose built bikes. With cruisers so inexpensive I'd like 3 more of them: light blue frame for beach use, a utility cruiser with saddle bag rack/fishing rod holders/kayak carrier attachment, and a project cruiser built to be super light (not inexpensive). This winter will be busy!

I want to build a bike with a cheap saddle and front and rear racks. Then cover it with stickers from head to toe. It would be nice to have a bike I could lock up and not worry about.
