It might just be that the E-werk came out when the USB standard was 0.5A. Or they don't want to be liable for blowing up your phone from charging at too high a current. Who knows.

The best thing to do is to charge through a cache battery (they say you can charge that at 1.5A), you have to find one that will power a device while being charged (called passthrough).
