Busch & Müller E-werk configuration
Hi,
I bought this Bush & Müller E-werk to charge my phone while I ride. This is quite important when riding long distances, specially if you don't know the way and has to route.
The manual (https://www.peterwhitecycles.com/down...ERK-Manual.PDF) says to configure it with 4.9V and 0.5A for USB devices.
I've no idea about those things, but on my AC charger says that the output is 5V-2.0A.

With 4.9V-0.5A it charges my phone when I have it on airplane mode and with screen off. Any other configuration, the power is not enough to charge the phone.
The E-werk configuration goes until 1.5A. Will I harm my phone if I configure it to 4.9V-1.5A?
Maybe with this configuration, I can charge it with the screen and internet on (which would be perfect to route the way on my trips).

It might just be that the E-werk came out when the USB standard was 0.5A. Or they don't want to be liable for blowing up your phone from charging at too high a current. Who knows.
The best thing to do is to charge through a cache battery (they say you can charge that at 1.5A), you have to find one that will power a device while being charged (called passthrough).

Your phone has circuit that handles internal battery charging. It will regulate the amount of current needed, not the E-Werks. If your phone can handle 1.5 A then it will source that and taper off as the battery charges. If you have the E-Werks setting on 0.5A then it will never take much longer to charge. Put it to max setting and charge.
Think of it this way, your residential wall outlet (in USA, as the example) is typically protected by 15A breaker. Plug in a 40W light bulb. The bulb will not draw enough to trip the breaker. It only sources what is needed. Same with any of your electronic devices.
