I have an arm strap--affixing it to the bike doesn't seem like a great idea, but it seems like people are doing it and not having problems... yet
the 20GB/30GB/40GB/60GB all use hard drives... though it isn't spinning all the time, the ipod spins up the hard drive, reads about 32MB of mp3 in your queue into a RAM buffer, and then spins down the drive again. this is how it maintains a decent battery life. I wouldn't want to put one on my bars, bad things might happen if it was spinning the drive at the same time as I hit a large bump. Putting it in your jersey pocket absorbs a lot of road vibration...
