PY10FC. Luck X 2
So I happened to open craigslist at the right moment and somehow obtained this carbon Peugeot PY10FC for a song. It has a few blemishes, decals were removed poorly, wheels aren't original, brakes are missing some small bits, big gouge on the crankset (pictured). Other than that, though, it looks pretty terrific and its even my size. Its has a complete 7400 group down to the HS and English BB. 100x22mm Nitto stem Nitto Olympiade 115 bars, Dia-Compe non-aero levers, Campy 25mm seatpost. Wheels are Sunshine Guromaster 6-speed hub/Ukai rim. Those will go on something else. Seat is some newer Bontrager. 57 stamped on the non-driveside headtube.
The question is whether it not its safe and how can I find out/where can I go to get it checked out. I am considering keeping it if its safe to ride but I've heard of lugged carbon having catastrophic failure. It looks to have not been ridden much, though I haven't done a complete teardown yet.
And now for the other piece of luck. Not 10 days earlier I happened across a wheelset at a local oddity that would probably most closely resemble a Habitat for Humanity ReStore thrift shop. Someone donated a set of 8-speed Dura-Ace/Mavic wheels. I considered selling them because I had nothing that would work with them. Paid $2 for the front, $3 for the rear. I was so amazed by my luck that I thought maybe somehow the wheels went with the bike at one point, though I don't think so now. I have been more of a lurker lately but had to post this, definitely my score of the year.
