PY10FC. Luck X 2

PY10FC. Luck X 2
So I happened to open craigslist at the right moment and somehow obtained this carbon Peugeot PY10FC for a song. It has a few blemishes, decals were removed poorly, wheels aren't original, brakes are missing some small bits, big gouge on the crankset (pictured). Other than that, though, it looks pretty terrific and its even my size. Its has a complete 7400 group down to the HS and English BB. 100x22mm Nitto stem Nitto Olympiade 115 bars, Dia-Compe non-aero levers, Campy 25mm seatpost. Wheels are Sunshine Guromaster 6-speed hub/Ukai rim. Those will go on something else. Seat is some newer Bontrager. 57 stamped on the non-driveside headtube.
The question is whether it not its safe and how can I find out/where can I go to get it checked out. I am considering keeping it if its safe to ride but I've heard of lugged carbon having catastrophic failure. It looks to have not been ridden much, though I haven't done a complete teardown yet.
And now for the other piece of luck. Not 10 days earlier I happened across a wheelset at a local oddity that would probably most closely resemble a Habitat for Humanity ReStore thrift shop. Someone donated a set of 8-speed Dura-Ace/Mavic wheels. I considered selling them because I had nothing that would work with them. Paid $2 for the front, $3 for the rear. I was so amazed by my luck that I thought maybe somehow the wheels went with the bike at one point, though I don't think so now. I have been more of a lurker lately but had to post this, definitely my score of the year.

Do you have the 8 speed wheel mounted already?
Asking, because I actually had trouble trying to fit just a 7 speed wheel to my PY10FC. I found it strange, cause all my other bikes that are 56cm size had no problems accommodating a 7 speed rear wheel with their 126mm spacing. I attribute it to the the PY10FC having a narrower than usual rear spacing between the rear dropouts and seat stays If you look closely at the seatstays, they actually curve inward from the top, before they hit the brake bridge, which I think give the seat stays an exagerrated angle between the brake bridge and the dropouts, making it hard to fit in 7 speeds and higher.....

Hope you keep the bike. My PY10FC is the best riding bike in my stable, with only my ALAN Record Carbonio, beating it a little bit in the quick handling department. Really smooth, really quiet, and fast on the road, but still quite stiff. definitely stiffer than even some of my steel bikes. I think it's because of the special design for the CF fiber orientation specified by Peugeot for the bike, plus the oversized tube diameter.

Your bike's frameset seems to be in great condition. A good sign is all the tube lug junction reinforcing rings seem to be intact and not cracked. PY10FC that led a hard life tend to lose these rings after corrosion gets under them and they literally crack and just fall off. The seatpost clamp and the lug seems to be also in good condition. Many PY10FC owners killed their bikes when they overtightened the clamps and the clamp ears cracked off..... so be easy on that clamp when you fiddle around with your seatpost height. I'd use some friction compound that they sell these days for modern bikes between the seatpost and the clamp to help avoid having to overtighten the clamp to keep your height adjustment.
Most of the decals for the bike are available from third party decal sellers at eBay., athough I still cannot find the one that says "racing team" on the right side of the top tube. I think Velocals sells the decal that says "FIBRE DE CARBONE" on the left side of the top tube. I remember looking at it very closely on their site and it is a bit off on the font style on a couple of letters, but should be good enough if you have to replace the one on your bike.

Got it torn down. Came apart easily, but unfortunately there is a sizable scrape on the inside of the NDS chainstay where it looks like the wheel was not aligned in the dropout correctly, or maybe someone was riding with a wheel so out of true it rubbed the chainstay. F/F/HS came out to just under 4.5 lbs weighed on a very crappy scale. Chombi1 The rear dropout measured out to be a touch under 119mm. No way is the 130mm DA wheelset going to fit.
