What exactly do you mean with onboard battery? The frame-mounted battery pack of the SL A is connected to the lighthead via DC-cable.
Mounting point can be topside or downside, since the mounting holes are on the side of the lamp.
Yikes! I definitely don’t want a setup so busy as that!

I want a simple, single-unit (i.e. battery & lamp in same housing) solution which is meant and designed to be mounted by the top of the unit.

Looking at the example of the desired light type and mount position pictured below, you can clearly see that the light was neither designed nor meant to be mounted in that position. Lettering and housing design elements plainly indicate it is upside down, the mount is an ungainly, afterthought adapter, and control buttons and indicators are out of sight underneath the unit. Bad.
