I picked up a sweet old Klein (pre-Trek) for free. It has hand built wheels with old Nukeproof Ti hubs
Archival Reviews of Nuke Proof Bike Hubs - the Buyer's Guide, 2015 (non-freewheel), XT front derailleur (early 90s M-735) and a functional American Classic seatpost. The old RST fork is shot but probably wasn't original but finding a decently priced 1" threaded 26" suspension fork is going to be somewhat hard. The rear derailleur is some hideous modern Acera jobber but luckily I have an old long cage M-735 one laying about which is in decent enough condition. The shift cables need replacing for sure and the brake lining is not much better so why not new cables and housing/liner all around. The cassette looks new and chain probably is newish but overly lubed. The pads are cracked at the rear and the front are a bit hard (but XT)
Overall it is not bad for a free bike especially a cool old Klein. I have always kind of wanted one and now I have one and rode it briefly. Some new parts and a little elbow grease and I will have a sweet vintage bike in the stable
I know pics or it didn't happen (sorry for the poor quality):
