Well, it was a big enough deal that it was one of the reasons v-brakes were invented.

It is not simply an issue related to fork material or even to the fork. It's a somewhat complex mechanical positive feedback system that is impacted by cable length, fork characteristics, brake design/flex, pad material and it's interface to the rim, and bike geometry. Perhaps you're lucky to never have had the problem bit it's a fairly common problem with cantilevers.
