As long as you have quality housing and cables Most the STI groupset will shift fine.
The exceptions I have encountered are lower end crankset ( 8 speed Sora) the chainring did not pick up the chains as well compare to the other series.

before you commit to the sora levers...are you just replacing the lever or the group?

The new Sora front derrarilleur have a longer swing arm, the R3000 left shifter will not work well with the older front derrailleur.
