Yes, giving friends a deal always feels better than selling to a liar. I have heard enough stories from buyers I no longer believe any of them (sadly).
When I moved out of town many years ago I had an apartment sale. Row of paperbacks on the mantle priced at a quarter apiece. Couple comes in and starts tipping selected volumes into a shopping bag and told me, "We pay ten cents for paperbacks." I told him, "Dump those out and get the hell out of my apartment. I'd rather give those books to friends than sell them to you."
