you are correct, it all depends on if there's a pinch point or any concentrated load point. I'm pretty relaxed when I'm torqing down metals, but with carbon I always use a torque wrench and follow the manufacturer's specifications
Yeah so I got a torque wrench. An inexpensive one at that. So far with fiber grip and proper torque I haven't had any slippage of the seatpost, and I have no concerns of over-tightening the seatpost. I might need to find a portable torque wrench if I ever need to change the saddle height on a ride, but I think I'm fine.
