So basically, my lower mid range component just asplodeded out of "nowhere" and that spells the companies decline in quality? I am confused?
How is one part (out of trillions upon trillions around the world) that could have been crashed, left in the sun or hot/humid conditions or worn out due to other things and is generally more towards the lower end of Shimano's range a sign of the entire brands quality?

Yes, it is true Shimano does make some low end stuff that I think we all wish didn't exist but that is something they have done for a long time and isn't a sign of diminishing quality. Their Dura-Ace, Ultegra, XT and XTR groups have always been innovative and high quality and haven't really gone down. They have changed and adapted to the times and new ideas and technology but nothing has declined. Maybe the looks did in the late 90s but they functioned well.

If your part that magically broke Just Riding Along is within a year of owning it and you didn't abuse the part (and be honest) then reach out to Shimano and see if they will replace it. However don't abuse the system if you abused your bike, it ruins it for all of us. Parts generally don't just break without some human input in some form and if that does truly happen it is a manufacturer error which can happen to any manufacturer. Things can break it does happen.
