Bikes: '96 Litespeed Catalyst, '05 Litespeed Firenze, '06 Litespeed Tuscany, '20 Surly Midnight Special, All are 3x10. It is hilly around here!

The HG-93 is a 9-speed chain so if the OP reused a standard pin that could explain the failure. He did say the second chain was installed by a Performance Bike shop and they should know better.
