The Mavic GP4 was first available in 1978 AFAIK, but they were rare. Took another 2 or 3 years before 'black' rims started catching on in the USA. I suspect the Europeans were less conservative.

It certainly could have been a replacement rim from the early 80s. Any race bike that still has its original rims wasn't really a race bike.
