It Broke Off Inside...

While restoring my future commuter bike to rideable condition (nearly 50 years of neglect from the original owner), I took apart the Suntour Spirt front derailleur. The small screw that is supposed to keep the cable in place was very tight inside the body of the derailleur. Fortunately, I got it out. Once I cleaned everything up, I started tuning up the bike after a short test ride. As per usual, the cable and whatnot settled into place. When I retightened the screw after readjusting the cable, the screw sheared right at the head. Luckily, it was tight enough to hold the cable in place.

Key Things:
-What threading is the little screw? If it is standard, I will replace it with a stainless or better screw.
-How can I get the screw out? I have removed screws before, but they weren't sheared, only stuck and partially stripped.
-Has this happened to anybody else?

One more thing:
There is a high probability that I was ham-fisted when I removed and tightened the screw. Please don't call me out on this, I am aware of it.
