Polar CS100 problem

For the past couple of weeks I've been using a new Polar CS100 cyclometer. Whenever I exceed my maximum set heart rate, the unit pauses, then starts and pauses over-and-over until my heart rate goes back down. Even when it does restart between pauses, it gives bizzare readings. It would often tell me I was going 1.6 mph or 3.3 mph (3.3 seemed like a favorite number) when I was going around 15 mph uphill.

On a quick 15 mile ride today, it ended up missing about 2 miles worth of data based on a comparision with my riding partner.

I could set my maximum rate at some very high number, but that would make the alarm feature worthless. I like to use the alarm on long rides, such as centuries, to remind me to keep a good pace.

Have I missed some sort of setting? Anyone else experience this?

Overall, based on comments here and from my own experience, the Polar cyclometers seem pretty buggy.
