Not sure what event rides are, but if its charity rides and the like- both those bikes are way more bike than needed.
get what you want and all, but both are past the mark where value and cost meet, if used for charity events and a century ride.
perhaps the new bike will lead you into more riding though.
with that- I'll say canyon every time(except if the decision is a bike with those gravel hover bars)
