Wrap the area you are going to cut with a little more than one layer of green masking tape.
I do it so the cut is in the middle of the tape.
Make sure the tape is really tightly wound around the cable.
Mark the cut line with a pen.
Make a firm quick cut with your cable cutters.
Remove the tape.
What color should the line be?
