merida 22inch is 55 cm.. ktm 21" is 53 cm...
My old wheeler is 21" ... so the main reason I have a dilema is the frame size: this merida maybe suits better: but the seller didnt allow me to try this bike outside...

definitely go for the smaller KTM frame. listen to the other people here. i believe the trend is to have somewhat smaller frames than those calculators predict. you will get the appropriate layout for your size from the handle bar and seat adjustments and stuff.
don't worry about the LX vs. XT...the LX will be great!
i am not from Europe. i know KTM makes quality motorcycles and unless they decided to crap out on their bicycle line, i would definitely chose the KTM.
you are contemplating the frame size way too much.
