1X for road is just marketing schtick. It never even passed the smell test with me.

Other than some TT bikes, I have yet to race/ride with anyone with a 1X on pavement, save one guy whose race bike was in the shop. He put a fast wheelset on his CX 1X, but the larger ratio jumps did screw up the rhythm of the paceline a bit.

If someone digs 1X for their own reasons, I won't "harsh their buzz" as long as they don't try to claim it's superiority, a la "riding tubular tires full time."
