Bikes: More bikes than riders

The uniqueness of the Roll lies in how it brings a lot of different elements to market in the same package. It's a comfort bike with a rigid fork -- that's not very common. Most comfort bikes, including the Sedona and Cypress, use suspension forks. Some people prefer rigid forks, and the Roll is one of the few comfort-oriented bikes to offer that. It pairs that rigid fork with 27.5x2.3" tires -- another unique aspect of the bike. Other comfort bikes with rigid forks (like Specialized Crossroads and Trek Verve) have 700c wheels with narrower tires. Those relatively large "balloon" tires really make for a different riding experience. The Sedona does have tires that are nearly 2" wide, but the Cypress comes with much narrower tires (35 or 38mm if I recall correctly). And the handlebar is pretty cool, too, its BMX-style high-rise bar. It works for those looking for a real upright ride, and can of course be swapped for a lower bar if you'd prefer less rise.

These differences may not be important, or even desirable, to some people, but the Roll is definitely a unique bike in the marketplace. My favorite LBS is a Specialized dealer, and I look at the Rolls every time I go in. I test-rode one a year or two ago and it didn't quite feel right to me, but I still keep eyeing them for some reason... :-)
