I also remember from my same era Protons needing a narrow 5 mm wrench to fit the recessed spoke nuts.
Only is you are building on the original rims.
Senator 5mm nut spinner (from Cromwell Tools, in the UK) is actually small enough to go through the rim drillings.
The corresponding 5.5 is a tight but OK fit for older-design Bora and Neutron Ultra ...
