I think part of the problem is people don't realize, or refuse to accept, how bad the virus is. I read lots of people saying things like "it's just another flu" or "the democrats are ruining the world economy over a flu" or they will trot out statistics about how the flu kills x number of people and we don't get excited about that.
I've also read people saying how the virus hasn't shown up in their area so why should they be forced to stay home. Lots of minimizing.

I've had a bad flu before and it made me so sick I could see how it could easily kill people. This new thing is reportedly worse than those viruses. I read a couple first hand accounts and it sounds awful.
