Keep working out the details and take few photos along the way. Integrated tool storage of your most used tools would get extra credit style points.

The general concept sounds more like a compost sifter system I am considering building. I do think the chicken wire (heavier grade) might make a suitable material for he bottoms of slide out storage drawers in a component storage rack I would like to build. The chicken wire would allow some airflow around everything which could help decrease corrosion in humid environments. The chicken wire would need to be able to be snugged up in the wooden drawer frame so that the bottom stays flat. The chicken wire could also be spray painted with Plasti-dip spray to make it more scratch resistant for your parts.
