Passenger Fixie Part 2: Banana Seat Edition
I've been doing some more thinking about carrying human cargo on a bike. Banana seats seem like an interesting solution, one that could potentially work with my existing steed, which is a Mark V. Some questions:
1) Is my bike burly enough to support the weight of two humans on a banana seat? Do I risk harming the frame, rim (velocity aerohead, IRO basic rear wheel) or axle? Would a larger tire help? How big a tire can I fit on a Mark V?
2) Do all seats use a standard rail width? I.e., would I need a new seatpost for a banana seat?
3) Do they make sissybars long enough for 700c wheel bikes? (My seat is fairly high off the top tube)
4) Are banana seats even big enough for two adults, or are they strictly for kiddies?
I look forward to hearing all thoughts on this matter. Thanks guys.
