1. Get it fixed pronto! If you don't, it will eventually ovalize your bike frame's head tube and there's no really adequate fix for that. You'll have to get a new bike frame.

2. There are two quite different headset styles. The adjustments are done completely differently. Can you post a photo or at lease describe, in detail, what your stem looks like?
